Do you agree that the case with India is that Indians are busy getting a degree and choosing a job that pays best? Could that be a potential reason why Indians hesitate to think out of the box and settle for the most convenient opportunities?

It’s nice to hear that some technology innovations do have Indians involved. Stats state that 90% of computers run on processors designed by Indians. Also, the world’s first free public emailing service was initiated by an Indian (Hotmail). Along those lines, some Indian companies (Micromax, Carbon etc.) are marketing mobile phones, but most of their parts are made in China. A lot of startups (Pinterest, Flipkart) are made by Indians. Things may change soon unless the brain gets drained in foreign countries, which is mostly the case.

However, India is “very slow” to adopt more contemporary technologies than nations like the US and Australia. A top bureaucrat said that there is a need to invest in artificial intelligence (AI) research and application in the mining sector. Indian people are extremely clever and are prepared to study, but the emphasis is always on the money. If the focus was curiosity and creativity, India has the brains to make huge advancements.

Haha, the sad truth!

Let’s examine a few reasons:

The mindset of money is everything:- Money is indeed but is not everything. In India, young engineers settle down for cash in their bank account and the lavish life they get from that cash. Ultimately, it makes them addicted to the same without their realization. By the time they realize, their brainstorming ability is already down enough, making them carry on with the same lifestyle.

Comfortability zone:- Since childhood, Indians have been told that their life is settling after finishing some level of education. Deep down in our subconscious mind, Indians are taught to work to get comfortable.

A mindset of settling down:- India has changed a lot over time in case of its cultural restrictions, women’s education, etc. But the mentality of graduating, getting married, having kids, and settling down killed the zeal of doing something in their life utilizing their education and skills is lost.

Business mindset:- India has always been the land of traders, basically a businessman; they know how to do business with less effort and investment. This skill is a reason which made India a country of the service industry, a country with a substantial human resource that has not been utilized as a vast brain resource. The person with a skillset and brain either ends up going abroad to use their skills or in the trap of settling down and making the Indian R&D sector weakest.

Lack of confidence: I am referring to the Indians’ support to the local products or locally developed in basic Indian mentality. The brand value that Indians have in their brands is lesser. But with other foreign brands, compact cars, for example, are considered a showcase of technology.
